Dr Biju’s award-winning film, 'Akashathinte Niram', is going places. After making its world premiere at the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival, and travelling across the globe, the movie has now been nominated for the Best Director and Best Script category at the 13th New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF). “It is indeed a joy to know about the nominations.
I will be travelling to New York soon for the event,” says Dr Biju. As many as 11 movies have been selected for the competition at the NYIFF. Incidentally,
Akashathinte Niram is the only entry from the South; the rest of the entries are movies from Hindi, Marathi and Bengali.
The movie, which stars
Nedumudi Venu, Indrajith and Amala Paul, was also sent for the Best Film category at the Oscars. The story revolves around the lives of an old man, a young boy and a deaf and dumb girl in an isolated island.
NYIFF will be held from April 30 to May 4, and there will be a special line-up of films to celebrate the 100 Years of Indian Cinema.
