‘Agent’ OTT release: When and where to watch the Akhil Akkineni - Mammootty starrer
The much-delayed OTT release of ‘Agent’, starring Akhil Akkineni, is finally set to happen.
The OTT Platform Sony LIV has acquired the streaming rights, putting an end to months of speculation. The platform has also released a new poster, officially announcing that the film will begin streaming on March 14.
What makes this release significant is that Agent is arriving on OTT nearly two years after its theatrical debut. The film was originally released in April 2023 but failed to perform well at the box office despite high expectations.
Reportedly, the prolonged delay in Agent's digital release was due to financial disputes between the film’s producer, Anil Sunkara, and distributor Battula Satyanarayana. The distributor had accused the producer of financial mismanagement and took the matter to court, leading to a legal battle. As a result, the court put a hold on the film’s online streaming.
Asianet News reports suggest that the film earned only Rs 13.4 crore, and also, the action flick received many trolls and criticisms from the audiences. Mammootty’s climax ‘Vikram’ inspired gun scene also received much trolls from the viewers. ‘Agent’ was said to be one of the underwhelming outs from the Malayalam superstar.
ETimes gave only 2 star rating for ‘Agent’ and our official review reads, “And that’s a shame because Akhil has the time of his life playing Rikki and it shows on-screen. Be it when he’s flexing his six-pack or grinning maniacally or dancing his way through an action sequence (you read that right) – he seems to enjoy it all. Even if he goes overboard at times, he essays the character fairly well. Sakshi looks adorable and acts fine, it’s a shame she doesn’t get much to do. Mammootty breezes through his role and while Dino Morea tries his best to lend his cookie-cutter antagonist some gravitas. There are numerous other characters that pepper the film, like the one played by Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, that don't really add to anything.”
