Mollywood veteran filmmaker
Adoor Gopalakrishnan slams National Film Awards and also reportedly lashes out at the jury members by calling them ‘Bollywood fans’. It was during his speech at the Film Societies of India’s John Abraham memorial award function that the veteran filmmaker opened up about his dissatisfaction with the National Film Awards.
During the award function, Adoor Gopalakrishnan reportedly said that earlier the film jury had some wise people who worked as film directors, critics, and theatre artists.
But now, according to Adoor, some random person is appointed as chairman of the jury, and the award is given to some other people.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan also reportedly added that cinema should be considered as an art form along with the fact that it's also a form of entertainment. He said that now the jury has become mere Bollywood admirers and even one of his friends said that many jury members were bored after watching just two movies.
According to Adoor Gopalakrishnan, the National Film Awards jury is just ‘Bollywood fans’ and also consists of people who don't have a basic understanding of movies and they are the ones who give awards to people out of courtesy. Adoor later added that these are only his thoughts on the matter.
Meanwhile, after the announcement of the National Film Awards for this year, although
Biju Menon bagged the award for all the right reasons, there was reportedly a huge section among the Malayali audience who were doubtful about whether the Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn deserved the award.
There were also several memes and trolls circulating on social media about the popular Bollywood actor bagging the most prestigious award and the netizens, mainly the Malayali film audience, also said that there were many other actors such as Fahadh Faasil, Prithviraj Sukumaran who deserved the National award rather than Ajay Devgn.
