Actor Siddique elected as the new general secretary of AMMA

Malayalam actor Siddique has been elected as the new general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

The elections took place during the annual general body meeting held at the Sree Gokulam Convention Centre in Kochi on the last day (June 30). For the unversed, the position was previously held by actor Edavela Babu for several years.

Siddique, who was contesting against Kukku Parameshwaram and Unni Sivapal, garnered widespread support from many actors and was the preferred candidate of the Producers' Association and the film directors' union. Edavela Babu, who had expressed his desire to step down in the previous election of 2021, confirmed his decision not to continue this time, emphasizing that he would not stay on under any compulsion.

Notably, Mammootty, who is currently in the UK, could not attend the meeting, while Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi was present and felicitated for his recent electoral success.

The meeting also saw Mohanlal being re-elected as the president of the association for the third consecutive term, and Unni Mukundan was elected unopposed as AMMA's treasurer. To this, the actor-writer Joy Mathew responded by saying in the promotional interview for ‘Swargathile Katturumbu’, that there is no one else qualified that Mohanlal to step into the position as the president of AMMA.


In addition to Siddique's election, Jagadish and Jayan Cherthala were elected as vice-presidents, prevailing over Manju Pillai. Baburaj emerged victorious over Anoop Chandran to become the new joint secretary. The elections saw active participation from 337 artists.
