According to The Hindu, the arrest, conducted by the investigating agency, was a procedural step, after which Siddique was released on bail as per the apex court’s directives. The ‘Nunakkuzhi’ actor underwent a medical examination and was presented before a court before being released.

Reportedly, the Supreme Court had granted Siddique protection from arrest on November 19, overturning the Kerala High Court’s earlier decision that denied him relief. The High Court had reasoned that the gravity of the accusations necessitated custodial interrogation for a proper investigation.

Siddique’s legal team contended that the allegations were part of a prolonged campaign of harassment and false accusations against him by the complainant since 2019.

The investigating officer in the case accused Siddique of non-cooperation, alleging that he misled the probe team despite the Supreme Court’s directive to comply. The officer emphasized that Siddique’s actions were impeding the investigation and that his behavior raised further questions about his involvement in the case.

For the unversed, Siddique, accused under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), faced serious allegations from a female actor.

Soon after the allegations, Siddique resigned from his position as the General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). His resignation came amidst a broader controversy involving the Malayalam film industry, which has been under scrutiny following the Justice Hema Committee report that exposed instances of sexual harassment and abuse within the industry.

Meanwhile, recently Siddique celebrated his 62nd birthday with his family. Siddique’s birthday celebration was conducted along with Shaheen Siddique’s son’s ‘Noolukettu’ function. The pictures from both functions were shared by Siddique’s son Shaheen Siddique via his Facebook handle along with a caption that read, “Happy Bday Vapichi.”
