Malayalam actor-screenwriter-filmmaker Sreenivasan was admitted to a private hospital in Angamaly on March 30, reportedly after he complained of chest pain. The actor reportedly underwent a bypass surgery, after the doctors detected three blocks in the blood vessels. Following the surgery he was in the intensive care unit (ICU), however, his saturation levels dropped on Wednesday and he was put on a ventilator with minimum support.
The latest reports suggest that the 66-year-old actor is responding well to the medicines, and hence has been shifted from ventilator support and is now in the intensive care unit.

Meanwhile, Sreenivasan turned 66 this week.

An impeccable actor, outstanding scriptwriter, and visionary filmmaker Sreenivasan started his career in cinema in the mid-1970s, through PA Backer's film 'Manimuzhakkam'. After debuting as an actor, he ventured into scriptwriting in 1984 for Priyadarshan's film 'Odaruthammava Aalariyam'. Sreenivasan has scripted for many ace filmmakers including Priyadarshan, Sibi Malayil, Sathyan Anthikad, Jayaraj, Kamal, Lal Jose, Vinayan, Rosshan Andrrews, and, TK Rajeev Kumar among others. Sreenivasan's collaboration with Sathyan Anthikad has always resulted in some gems including 'Sandesham', 'Pattanapravesham', 'Gandhinagar 2nd Street', and ‘Nadodikattu’ among others.
Sreenivasan has also bagged the Kerala State film award for best film, for his maiden directorial ‘Vadakkunokkiyanthram’, released in 1989. He has also won the National Film Award for Best Film on other social issues. for his directorial 'Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala’ in 1998.
Sreenivasan has collaborated with Mohanlal for numerous movies and ‘Nadodikkattu’ has turned iconic of sorts in the history of Malayalam cinema. Their characters Dasan (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan) hold a huge space in pop culture and the movie is still enjoyed by the cinephiles.

On the work front, Sreenivasan’s next is ‘Makal’, wherein he is collaborating with Sathyan Anthikad once again, but this time as an actor. The film is slated for release by the end of this month, April 2022.
