Actor Devan to contest in Assembly Elections
Veteran
In conversation with a prominent Malayalam TV channel, he said that he wishes to contest from Thrissur, which is his native place. Interestingly, the actor will not be teaming up with any of the existing political parties, but will be contesting under the banner of a new party launched by himself.
He revealed that his team does not consist of any celebs, but only has common people who think like him. The actor, who was apparently active in politics since his student days, has contested in elections even before from Trivandrum West. He said that he was also invited to various existing parties by those including national leaders. He also said that he doesn’t think Kerala politicians or his former film industry colleagues, who are now active in politics, would be interested to join him.
As his reason for launching a new party, he said that the kind of changes he wishes to see for Kerala cannot be brought about by collaborating with any of the existing ideologies.
Devan, who has worked both in films and television, has been active in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industries and he is also the son-in-law of filmmaker Ramu Kariat. Devan, who came into the Malayalam film industry as a producer through the film ‘Vellam’ in the year 1985, was seen last in the film ‘Big Brother’ starring Mohanlal in the year 2020.
