Abrid Shine ropes in Kalidas as lead for a campus film

Kalidas Jayaram has been on the lookout for an exciting project to make his debut as a hero in Malayalam and it seems the wait was worth it. The actor has been roped in as the protagonist for 1983 filmmaker Abrid Shine's next.

'Kalidas has been confirmed as the lead for the film. He plays a college student in the movie, which is entirely set on a campus. It's a role tailor-made for him,' says Abrid Shine, adding that the yet-to-be-titled movie will go on floors by next month in Ernakulam.

Like Abrid's previous movie Action Hero Biju, the upcoming project will also have a host of newcomers. 'We have auditioned and selected a lot of fresh faces from across Kerala to play pivotal characters of college students for the movie,' says the director, who has also scripted the venture.

Meanwhile Kalidas took to his social networking page to announce the news, 'It couldn't get any better than to act in Shine chettan's movie. I still remember him taking my photos when I was a kid! It's a great feeling to be back on home turf,' he posted.

While Kalidas had worked as a child artiste along with his dad Jayaram in

and Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum, this film will mark his debut as a protagonist in Malayalam. Prior to signing Abrid's film, the actor had worked in the Tamil movies

, which are awaiting release.
