In a recent interactive session on social media, the director opened up that his passion for cinema began at the age of 19-20. When asked about whether he loves Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan, the filmmaker replies ‘both’. Aashiq Abu also admits that he regards veteran filmmaker Kamal as his guru. Aashiq Abu began his career assisting director Kamal.

Aashiq Abu’s recent directorial is ‘Virus’, a medical thriller. The movie that portrayed the gloomy days of the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala, in 2018 earned pan-Indian attention. The multi-starrer also won the hearts of the audience. After watching ‘Virus’, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan invited the filmmaker to his Mannat residence. Aashiq Abu will be directing Shah Rukh Khan in his next. As per the sources, the team is planning to begin the movie by the end of 2020.
