69th National Film Awards: ‘Nayattu’ writer Shahi Kabir honored for Best Original Screenplay

The 69th National Film Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to Indian cinema in 2021, took place at the prestigious Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. One of the highlights of this year's awards for the Malayalam cinema, was with the popular film writer Shahi Kabir receiving the award for Best Original Screenplay for his work in the film 'Nayattu.'

Shahi Kabir, renowned for his superhit films like 'Ela Veezha Poonchira' and 'Joseph,' was honored for his exceptional screenplay in the gripping film 'Nayattu.' The movie, directed by Martin Prakkat, garnered widespread acclaim for its compelling storyline and stellar performances. Starring Kunchacko Boban, Nimisha Sajayan, and Joju George, 'Nayattu' portrays the harrowing tale of three police officers on the run, fleeing from false accusations and brutality stemming from the unlawful arrest and torture of a civilian.


In addition to Shahi Kabir's accolade, Malayalam cinema celebrated several other noteworthy achievements at the 69th National Film Awards. 'Home' was recognized as the Best Malayalam film, while Vishnu Mohan's 'Meppadiyan' received the coveted Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director. Renowned actor Indrans received special mention for his outstanding performance in the film 'Home.'

Furthermore, 'Chavittu' earned accolades for Best Audiography, with the award going to Arun Asok and Sonu KP for their exceptional work. The film 'Aavasavyuham,' directed by Krishand RK, was honored as the Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation, highlighting its significant contribution to raising awareness about environmental issues.
