​Nadodikkattu

Can we ever look past the iconic characters Dasan and Vijayan from ‘Nadodikkattu’? Written by Siddique-Lal and scripted by Sreenivasan, ‘Nadodikkattu’ directed by Sathyan Anthikad is one of the cult-comedy films of all time from Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal played Dasan, while Sreenivasan stepped into the shoes of Vijayan, both unemployed, and looking for a better life. The film explored the life of Dasan and Vijayan, and how the socio-political conditions of the 1980s resulted in the unemployment of several youngsters.

​Sandesham

A meticulously crafted political satire ‘Sandesham’, helmed by Sathyan Anthikad features Jayaram and Sreenivasan in the lead roles. Set against the backdrop of a normal family, the film explored the consequences that mindless political beliefs could bring. The lead characters Prabhakaran (Sreenivasan) and Prakashan (Jayaram) are brothers, but belong to different political groups, and are rivals. The duo is sons of Raghavan Nair (Thilakan) a retired station master, and Bhanumathi (Kaviyoor Ponnamma), a homemaker, and has a sister. Sathyan Anthikad has dug deep into Prabhakaran and Prakashan’s political differences and irresponsibility toward their family, for the sake of their political career, and has presented it in the form of a black comedy.

​Vadakkunokkiyanthram

Released in 1989, ‘Vadakkunokkiyanthram’ is written and directed by Sreenivasan. The film marked Sreenivasan’s maiden directorial, and it features Sreenivasan and Parvathy in lead roles. The film spoke about a newlywed couple, where the husband develops an Othello syndrome, because of his inferiority complex. The characters Dineshan (Sreenivasan), and Shobha (Parvathy) became iconic of sorts in pop culture, and the movie discusses their marital discord. The black comedy is worth revisiting.

​Udayananu Tharam

Written by Sreenivasan and directed by Rosshan Andrrews, ‘Udayananu Tharam’ is a black comedy, that travels through the life of film enthusiasts. In simple words, it is a film within films. Featuring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan as Udayabhanu and Rajappan Thengumoodu respectively, ‘Udayananu Tharam’ is a packed entertainer. Udayabhanu, an assistant director working tirelessly towards becoming an independent filmmaker, while Rajappan is determined to become a star, no matter what. The film explores the struggles newbies face in the industry, and how showbiz is not always glitz and glam.

​Katha Parayumbol

Written by Sreenivasan, ‘Katha Parayumbol’ is helmed by M Mohanan, which speaks about the friendship between a local barber and a film star. Sreenivasan essayed the role of Balan, a barber, and Mammootty essayed the role of superstar Ashok Raj. A moving family entertainer, ‘Katha Parayumbol’ explored Sreenivasan’s acting chops, as well as the depth of relationships.
