After her cameo role in Pavada, Manju Warrier will once again share screen space with Anoop Menon in the upcoming movie directed by Deepu Karunakaran. The sports drama film, scripted by Arunlal Ramachandran, will see the actress as a volleyball coach of a team comprising prisoners. “More than a sports film, it tells the story of the bond between a couple. Manju plays a wife who goes out of her way to support her husband essayed by Anoop,” informs Arunlal.
While Anoop won’t be a prison inmate in the yet-to-be-titled film, it will have him starring with Murali Gopy for the third consecutive venture after Pavada and Pa.Va. “The jail is an important setting in the film and Murali plays its warden,” Arun says, adding that Sunny Wayne, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Sudhi Koppa and six other artistes round out the cast of inmates of the correctional facility.
As preparation for their roles, several actors have already started attending practice sessions headed by volleyball coach T Harilal at Jimmy George Indoor Stadium in Trivandrum. Director Deepu tells us, “Even if the cast is not trained, you can somehow shoot scenes for games such as football. But for volleyball, you have to get the timing, serve and strike right. That’s why we have organised a camp as well matches with school teams and clubs before we start filming.”
For Manju Warrier’s role, he says, “As she plays a coach, she doesn’t have to physically play the sport in the movie. However, she is planning to take tips from volleyball players to better understand the psyche of the character.” The movie will go on floors by the second week of February in Trivandrum.
