The Malayalam release ‘Pennu Case’ featuring
Nikhila Vimal and Hakkim Shajahan in the lead roles, has experienced a sharp decline in box office collections as it transitions from its opening weekend to weekday screenings. Though the film showed promise on the initial days, despite not being a star vehicle, the weekdays proved to have slashed the earnings by half.
‘Pennu Case’ day 4 box office collection
The Nikhila Vimal starrer earned Rs 10 lakh from India's net collection on the fourth day, Tuesday, January 13, according to Sacnilk. The film began its theatrical run with reasonable numbers, collecting Rs 30 lakh on its opening day. On Sunday, January 11, the film saw a slight improvement, minting Rs 35 lakh.
However, the trend almost died by its third day. On Monday, January 12, the film collected Rs 15 lakh, according to the outlet, followed by Rs 10 lakh on the fourth day. As per the outlet, on the fourth day, the India net collection stands at Rs 90 lakhs. It has collected Rs 25 lakhs overseas, bringing the whole worldwide collection to Rs 1.32 crore.
The makers of ‘Pennu Case’ had pushed up the release date to January 10, owing to the delay in Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’. However, the box office numbers suggest that the preponement hasn’t really worked in favor of the film.
All about ‘Pennu Case’
Directed by Febin Sidarth, ‘Pennu Case’ revolves around a woman con artist who runs a wedding scam. The film, featuring Nikhila Vimal and Hakkim Shajahan in the lead roles, also has actors Aju Varghese, Ramesh Pisharody, Praveen Raja, Shivajith, Irshad Ali, PP Kunhikrishnan, Dhanesh Koliyat, and Anarkali Nazar in supporting roles.
TOI has ranked the film 2 out of 5, and the review reads, “A film does not become women-centric simply because a woman occupies the central role or gets more screen time. Pennu Case fails to meaningfully explore its female character or offer any strong commentary on relationships or deception. Overall, Pennu Case is a missed opportunity. An interesting idea is let down by poor writing, weak performances, and flawed technical execution. An underwhelming watch that struggles to rise above its shortcomings.”
