Dulquer Salmaan backed and
Dominic Arun directed Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra with Kayani Priyadarshan and Naslen is inching towards one of the biggest achievements since it’s release 4 weeks ago. The total collection of the film has now reached Rs 140.25 crore and it needs less than Rs 2 crore to go past the record set by Manjummel Boys to become the highest grossing Malayalam film in the country. Manjummel Boys had gone on to collect Rs 142.08 crore from it’s theatrical run. Though there would be differences between the two films, Lokah has been released in multiple languages, its collections are pouring in from Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions as well but with Malayalam version being the engine. But in the case of Manjummel Boys, the film was released only in Malayalam and Telugu.
The Kalyani headlined film is within striking distance of dethroning Manjummel Boys but it seems the female superhero film is slowly losing steam at the box office. After having a strong 4th weekend at the box office where the film earned about Rs 9 crore, the collection on Monday dropped to just Rs 1.25 crore and Tuesday fell to Rs 1.25 crore- making it the lowest one day collection of the film since its release. Going by the trends it would be only by Friday that Lokah would be able to go past Manjummel Boys’ collection to claim the number 1 spot. Also with the release of
Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG tomorrow would be delaying Lokah’s race to the top.
With the rumours of Lokah being released on OTT, Dulquer took to Twitter to state that profile that the film won't be releasing on the OTT in the near future.Trade believes that the success of the film has made sure that the film will release on OTT only after the 8th week- which has usually been the deal with successful films across languages especially Hindi.
Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra is a part of a 5 part series backed by Dulquer where second part will feature
Tovino Thomas, third part will have Dulquer himself and 4th part will be led by
Mammootty and 5th will have all of them together.
