‘2018’ box office collection day 23: Tovino starrer becomes the first Malayalam film to gross Rs 150 crore worldwide

Jude Anthany Joseph’s survival thriller ‘2018’, based on the 2018 Kerala floods, continues to strike gold, even in its 4rth week! The Tovino Thomas starrer has entered the Rs 150 crore in worldwide box office collection, and interestingly becomes the first Malayalam movie to do so! ‘2018’ has surpassed the collection of ‘Pulimurugan’ starring Mohanlal, which held the credit of the highest-grossing Malayalam movie! Jude Anthany Joseph’s film has also beat ‘Lucifer’, and become the first-ever Malayalam movie to gross Rs 150 crore.

The industry trackers have confirmed the same. “#2018Movie enters the 150 crore club worldwide ��Malayalam cinema's biggest success beating biggies Pulimurugan and Lucifer, and the first film ever from the industry to gross 150 crores. Unstoppable in its 4th week too, and has now released in multiple languages ��,” an industry analyst tweeted.

‘2018’ is expected to do much more, as the film’s dubbed versions have hit the screens this Friday, and the response from the Telugu states is surprising. The film has reportedly minted Rs 1.1 crore from Telugu states on its first day. As per the reports, the makers have sold the digital rights to a leading OTT platform at a whopping price and the film is expected to start streaming in June.

Apart from Tovino Thomas, ‘2018’ also has Kunchako Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Narain, Lal, Indrans, Sudheesh, Gilu Joseph, Vinitha Koshy, Aju Varghese, Tanvi Ram, Sshivada, and Gauthami Nair in the lead roles.
