Story: The film brings together two iconic characters (from popular Malayalam cinema) as they embark on a mission to foil a terrorist plot. Shaji Kailas has combined two seething mountains of anger in The King And The Commissioner with traces of a skill that he alone possessed in Malayalam film industry once. The movie reveals a director’s mind that is desperate to return to the niche he is known for. He doesn’t try anything extravagant to achieve this, but plucks two of his most popular characters in movies and sends them together on a mission.

Movie Review: Joseph Alex (Mammootty) and Bharath Chandran (Suresh Gopi) haven’t shed their characteristic traits. Joseph still slants his head slightly and runs his fingers through his hair after each fiery speech. The chauvinist in him, who is still alive, however takes shelter behind the communist in him. He smirks at the idea of calling Anna Hazare a Gandhi because he feels it is stupid to equate someone with Gandhi just because he wears a similar cap. He loathes the corporates, and longs to see the poor and the deprived reawakening. This time his roar scales higher pitches, ‘Yes I have an extra bone. But I also have an extra back-bone’.

Bharath Chandran does not look subdued in the company of Joseph Alex. Both of them sprint after the villains, shoot at them at will and even ride a swanky bike. Renji Panicker has broadened the range of their vocabulary in the new edition. Both unfurl newer facets of their much-celebrated, though a bit chided, flair for raw, vernacular invectives. The dialogues by Renji Panicker are sharp, acidic and scorching, but the narrative warrants it.

Sai Kumar plays the character of a scheming god-man, who is a clone of what Narendra Prasad played in Ekalavyan. However, the director seems least bothered about the semblance. While in their former avatars the lead characters fought corruption, it is terrorism that they are combating now. The mission at times looks a bit too much for the IAS- IPS guys to handle, and the climax shots reek of staleness.
