Story: The film throws light on the rampant crimes happening against women, and whether they can envision a safe world for themselves.

Review: Safe revolves around Shreya IPS, who is hell-bent on getting hold of the accused in a sexual abuse case and Arundhathi, a social worker, whose only aim is to create a haven for women. From the outset, Shreya, the acerbic officer, is seen preoccupied with the case that shook the lives of 21 women.

Safe, which is directed by Pradeep Kalipurayath, has Aparna Gopinath essaying the role of Shreya, while Anusree is seen as Arundhati. As the two simultaneously strive towards achieving the same goal, their paths meet when the latter’s actions conflict the law and order system and the ordinary man takes charge of the situation. Through an app titled Safe, the activist helps women live, without any premonition of being touched inappropriately or being molested. The quick and speedy action by the members helps safeguard a lot of lives.

Actor Siju Wilson appears as a plastic surgeon in the film as well as Arundhati’s love interest. His character is such that he finds joy when his beloved marches ahead, triumphing over each case and by empowering women at the same time. The leading ladies manage to do justice to their roles, and make one aspire to be as determined as they are.

Through the film, the director has attempted to capture the constant fear that most women live with. The songs, composed by Rahul Subrahmanian, are quite musical, though it sounds a bit forced during certain situations in the film.

The film aims to bring a story about a revolution, when it comes to women’s safety and security. However, as Arundhati becomes the saviour of umpteen lives and helps catch hold of criminals secretively one after the other, one cannot resist thinking if things were this easy in real life. There are times when the same situation might seem a bit impractical and far-fetched. Having said that Safe deserves an extra point for talking at large about a socially relevant issue and for aiming to bring a solution by making the best use of social media and technology.
