Story: Prakashan is missing after a pulikkali performance. Nervarennu immani cherinjoo.. taa is the story of the new SI in town investigating Prakashan's missing case.

Review: Films that visibly place the culture of a district as their backdrop often bank on the dialects spoken there too. Often, movies based on Thrisshur are more in number among them as well. As obvious from the title, adding to this long list is Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa. Written and directed by Mani Madhav Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa is a comedy thriller based in a hamlet in Thrisshur.

Prakashan is a youngster who turns up at a pulikkali performance as a tiger in a hamlet in Thrishur. He is missing the next day. Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa is the town's Sub Inspector investigating his missing case.

Pulikkali is a tradition entwined with the culture of Thrisshur. The film makes good use of the pulikkali culture and the artists who pose as tigers in this artform. Sudhi Koppa plays a pulikali performer and his character is required to seamlessly incorporate this artistic skill into the story, which he does quite well. Kalabhavan Shajon seems to be in an endeavor to portray the many shades of a policeman. If he played bad cop in Drishyam, he also played a good cop in Orayiram Kinakkal. In Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa he plays the good cop yet again. And this time he does it with a subtlety quite reminiscent of his character from Orayiram Kinakkal.

However, in Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa, the story tremendously fails his caliber. For the rest of the characters, all supposedly from a hamlet in Thrishur, speak a thickly accented Thrisshur dialect, often seemingly strained. The natural ebb and flow of the language is somewhat lost. The story is also lost on logic. For a crime' investigation thriller, it fails to keep the audience on the toes. In Shajon, here is a cop who loves going undercover to solve his case but chooses to wear a t-shirt with the slogan 'Sathyameva jayathe' printed across his chest. And here is a cop who chooses to let his teenaged daughter accompany him all while his official duty of the investigation. And Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa is a story with not a story but a idea around which incidents are built in. The songs also let you down time and again. (One cannot help but feel blase about a song about a cow and it's dung being used to fertilise a plantain to get a banana, so on and so forth.)

Nervarennu imani cherinjoo.. taa offers some stunning aerial shots. However, that and a good performance from Kalabhavan Shajon and Sudhi Koppa aside, the movie has little to offer. Even the central message the film seems to put forth seems half baked and lacks conviction. This is one of those movies where you ain't missing anything by giving this a miss.
