Isha

Story: The ghost of Isha, who was murdered by a few powerful men, possesses the body of a girl in a family that moves to a hill station bungalow. Isha is out there to take vengeance.

Review: The title card of the movie Isha says that it is based on true events. Abuse of women forms the base of this horror movie, written and directed by Jos Thomaas. What would happen if a woman who was molested by powerful men and denied justice returns to take vengeance? Isha traces that.

After a bitter divorce, Susan moves to a bungalow at a hill station with her daughter Angel and her parents to start a new life. Upon reaching there, Isha, the spirit of a young girl who was brutally murdered there, possesses Angel’s body. Although she uses Angel’s body as an instrument to take revenge, an exorcist, played by Kishore Sathya, stops her. But Isha is there to stay and finds an alternative for executing her plan.

Ghost stories always have takers. However, if there is no freshness in the narration, watching it would be a hectic task. Although the movie Isha touches upon atrocities against woman, a relevant subject, its execution and premise are not fresh. From the background setting to the properties used, character description and makeup, it is cliché. A highly predictable movie, it is a mix of those stereotypical flavours such as grumpy dolls, dim light, creepy shadows and murmurs. In spite of all this, Isha is hardly scary. She fails to create any impact on the audience.

In acting, Kishore Sathya is convincing as an exorcist. Margret Antony, a significant character, too gives a decent performance. Abhishek Vinod who plays the role of Martin does well. There are a few good aerial shots of the hill station that enhance the plot. Music is by Jonathan Bruce. There are two songs of which one could be removed as it does not add to the plot. But as a horror flick, Isha hardly scares the audience.
