Story: Christopher is a vigilante cop fighting crimes against women

Review: Mammootty starrer Christopher was expected to pack a punch, but falls flat. That said, it's a watchable movie with some redeeming elements. Someone like Mammootty, whose acting potential shined through in recent releases, had nothing much to do in this film which takes us through the life of vigilante cop Christopher. His swagger and style keeps us awake and get us excited at some points. The first half is mostly engaging and keeps us interested in the titular character.

Even the fact that the entire first half is used mostly to tell us his background is not off-putting, but rather adds to the build up. However, in the second half, we can almost predict what will happen. So many archetypes are repeated in the movie with zero hesitance- cough cough- Sneha. The climax is nothing extraordinary. However, the roles played by Aishwarya Lekshmi and Amala Paul are lengthy, unlike the usual female characters, but could have been fleshed out well. The villain played by Vinay Rai was wasted as a character. Vinay's subtle performance could have held the plot up if only his villainy was defined better with more screen time and background. If Mammootty's swagger and screen presence alone can keep the movie up, Christopher will pass the test.

In trying to build up Christopher, every other character was ignored. Also, absolutely no one wants to see a series of gory rape scenes spread throughout the movie. Viewers can understand the gravity of the crime and injustice without forcing it and could even be triggering for viewers who have faced assault in the past. This B Unnikrishnan-Udayakrishna movie fails to utilise Mammootty as an actor and star. Justin Varghese's music adds to the moments Christopher shines on screen.
