Tagore’s Kabuliwala comes alive on stage
Buoyed by the success of ‘The Solus Show’, a new theatre initiative in Bengaluru that aims at showcasing the acting skills of aspiring artistes on one platform, Lebeda Productions is back with its latest play. Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s acclaimed short story Kabuliwala, this dramatic piece explores a special bond bet-ween a father and daughter.
Premiering in the city today, the play is directed by Devanand Mahakud, while the cast includes actors Aanchal Pemmaiah, Pramit Pratim Ghosh, Dr Sushmita Chatterjee and Venkat Srinivasan.

“The play will be staged in the solus format, which blends narration with performance. Staying true to the script, we have also tried to maintain the old-world charm of Kolkata. The music used in the play is one of its high points. Kabuliwala is a heart-touching story that essays the father-daughter relationship — one of love and friendship, in its purest form. The plot delves into the honesty and vulnerability of Kabuliwala and the innocence of Mini, while focusing on empathy that is becoming a rare emotion in today’s materialistic world,” says Devanand.
The stage design and costume for the characters have been taken care of by Raakhee Bose.
