“Sanchari Theatre has been closed temporarily because of the pandemic. This is a way to keep our

artistes

and technicians engaged,” says actor, adding that the video’s primary message is that of hope. “So many people are suffering from mental health issues. Our technicians don’t have jobs now and working on projects like this will keep their mind occupied,” he adds. The idea for the video, he says, came when N Mangala, the founder of Sanchari Theatre, sent him the poem by Nataraja Honnavalli. “It is a beautiful poem and we could relate to it, so we spoke to our director Aravind Kuplikar and he planned the concept and shoot.”

On the current situation of the theatre industry, Sanchari says that though many artistes are experimenting online, it is not the right medium for theatre, which needs to be an experience. “You can do readings, you can do solo performances. But it is not the ideal medium for drama, as that is an experience. And theatre is the work of a group,” Sanchari explains, adding, “Like the line in the poem says, hope we can be back to the stage soon.”
