Through this class Prasad Cherkady, who has been involved in Yakshagana for 18 years aims to keep the interest alive in this traditional performance during the lockdown, when performing spaces had to down their shutters. So far, we hear that response to his classes have been encouraging and positive. Many prospective performers have also taken to the post asking about the classes and the registration.
For those who are new to this, Yakshagana is a traditional Indian theatre form, developed in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga and western parts of Chikmagalur districts, in the state of
Karnataka and in
Kasaragod district
in Kerala that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form. Over years, this art form has piqued interest from across the globe and especially during lockdown has found many willing takers who want to learn.
Also asking people to support this performance in the difficult time, Prasad posted online. In this difficult time, if you think learning Yakshagana will keep you active, consider this.." he shared.
