Kick-starting the celebrations were two popular troupes -

Benaka

and

Samudaya

. The evening began with Rangashankara founder

Arundhati Nag

inviting theatre and film veterans

TS Nagabharana

and

B Jayashree

to light the ceremonial lamp. Arundhati then said that this trial run would help them assess how to function in this pandemic and that they will use these learnings when the venue officially reopens. She also revealed that the first play being staged after reopening would be a B Jayashree production.

The evening saw a host of theatre aficionados, young and seasoned, turn up to soak in some Rangageethe by Benaka and a staged rehearsal of Tughlaq by Samudaya.
