Play probes into the perils of dictatorship

Tadroopi was written during the Emergency

Tadroopi

, written by Prasanna, was penned during the Emergency. It is a powerful

play

ridiculing dictatorship and corruption in the society. The playwright has effectively conveyed the ways and means of a dictator and how he utilizes an impersonation by a group of frauds. He puts an end to the fraudsters and the effectively uses the lookalike to catch his detractors.
Prasanna also brings in the emotions and the loneliness of dictators and how they try to maintain a larger-than-life image, in order to protect and boost their ego. Ridiculing how power is thrust upon some people just because of their family are associated with power, the script is relevant even today. Although the original script is much more serious, Joseph, the director of this play, has transformed it into a comic political satire. To make it even more relevant, certain present time issues are also effectively included in the play.
The artistes of the play are Keerthi Bhanu, Ramesh Upadhya, Harish Somayaji, Bharat Ravudi, Srikanth, Anuradha, Latha Manjunath, Kruthika Rao, Raghavendra, Shiv Kumar, Satish Kasetty, Nandan, Pratap, Manohar, Bharath Kumar, Hemanth Kumar and Sathya Vijay.
The play is scheduled to take place on May 8 (3.30 and 7.30 pm) at

Ranga Shankara

, 36/2 8th Cross II Phase, JP Nagar.
