Jagriti Theatre brings Panchatantra stories to the fore

Everybody loves Panchatantra stories! One of namma Bengaluru’s popular performing arts hub Jagriti Theatre is streaming one of its popular productions, ‘Panchatantra Retold’, on its YouTube channel. Directed by seasoned actor-director Rebecca Spurgeon, the multilingual play runs for a duration of 60 minutes.
This retelling of the ‘Panchatantra’ is an exciting new exploration of the classic ‘Panchatantra’ stories – ‘The Blue Jackal’, ‘The Monkey and the Crocodile’ and ‘The Monkey and the Wedge’.The play features actors Ameet Bhuvan, Bhavana Rajendran, Shlok Menon, Spatica Ramanujam and Swetanshu Bora.
Filled with shadow play, music, storytelling and physical theatre, this show will definitely excite you to revisit these stories if you have grown up reading them and is a great way to introduce children to the wonderful tales and characters of the ‘Panchatantra’.

This show joins some of the most prominent productions of Jagriti Theatre that have been released online in the wake of the pandemic, as auditoriums and other public venues continue to remain closed to ensure public safety. The digital version of Girish Karnad’s first play ‘Yayati’, which was written in 1960 when he was 23 years old, was recently showcased on the video-streaming channel, while there were also plays like Arundhati Raja-directed ‘All About Women’, ‘Charandas Thief!’ by Habib Tanvir, ‘The Dreams of Tipu Sultan’ by Girish Karnad, Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, which was also directed by Rebecca.
