Bengaluru witnessed a unique memorial service for the late playwright Girish Karnad. Storytellers, theatre artistes, students learning drama gathered to remember him by performing to a few of his plays. Also part of the day-long event were filmmaker VK Prakash and documentary and feature filmmaker, and cartoonist KP Sasi who spoke about the playwright.
The team put up performances of Girish Karnad’s

Kannada

play Tughlaq, which also featured theatre personality and actor

Doddanna

as part of the Samudaya Theatre Group. Rajarshi Banerjee, a young actor trained at the

New York Film Academy

, performed Tughlaq’s monologue. The other two performances were taken from Girish Karnad’s

Nagamandala

, and were performed by actors Sreejesh OK and Prakash Bare.

There was also a screening of the award-winning film Samskara, co-written by Girish Karnad, which was based on a story by UR Ananthamoorthy’s story.
