Starting from June 6, this two-week long online event would witness an array of performance art. One can enjoy Priyadarsini Govind present ‘Hasati’, focusing on humour and its different shades in

Indian poetry

through

Bharatanatyam

on June 6. In the presentation, she states that she is like a “pearl necklace in a monkey’s neck,” indicating that the Lord is unable to appreciate her. The verse she uses is a classical verse by 14th-century Sanskrit poet Vidyapati.

Another special opera gala on June 6 at 6 pm, featuring some of the most popular excerpts from operas by Verdi, Donizetti, Mozart and more, performed by the Symphony Orchestra of India with leading soloists from Russia: Antonina Vesenina,

Alina Yarovaya

,

Alexey Tatarintsev

, and Grigory Soloviov conducted by

Mikhail Shekhtman

.


One can also enjoy the synergy of tabla, mridangam and dholak, all bounded by the Indian concept of Tala, with the melodic accompaniment of sarangi. The event would include an exclusive performance of maestro Zakir Hussain with Anantha R. Krishnan, Navin Sharma and Sabir Khan. These performances are being showcased on NCPA's Youtube page.
