Chidiyon ka Pinjra: A tale of longing for freedom
The New Voices Arts Project presents Chidiyon ka Pinjra, a Hindi play that has been translated from the English original, The Cage of Sparrows. The play is being staged at Jagriti Theatre between June 25 and 29.
The play tells the story of Rulda and Rinku, two men separated by a generation, but joined by one need: the need to escape. Set in village Garhi Mahasingh in Punjab’s vast countryside, the play is a tale of longing for freedom as much as getting trapped in its quest, of moving on as much as the need for never forgetting, of borders, smugglers, immigration agents and passports, of scars left by history, of a homeland lost to conflict and men reduced to numbers, of running from the past, of running away from a destiny, of running till one’s legs give way.
