B Jayashree, Srinivas Kappanna bid adieu to Girish Karnad

Friends, well-wishers, peers and the press gathered in large numbers to the late Girish Karnad’s residence in Bengaluru. Present at the venue were Girish’s wife Saraswathy Ganapathy, daughter Radha and son Raghu. Girish Karnad personally requested that no elaborate formalities, which saw VIPs and crowds in attendance, be held following his demise. In place of religious chants, lines from his works were read out. Girish’s son Raghu, reportedly said that his father’s last wish was to have a simple cremation and that Girish did not want state honours, flowers, wreaths, or politicians and actors to visit him. While many turned up in large numbers, Girish’s family asked that people respect his wish for a quiet farewell.
