Anita Nair experienced a homecoming of a different kind — her village library organised a reception for her at Mundakotukurussi in
Kerala. Apparently, her career was built on the novel The Better Man, which is loosely based on the village itself.
The diarist got to know that the library has been built on the land her family had donated to the village and there are more than Rs 15,000-worth books stocked in it (and counting).
The author says she was pleased to see a crowd of over 80 people who had come to listen to her, and there were no frills and fancies like wine, coffee or refreshments. Certainly a welcome change from the lavish book launches and reading sessions one sees at city events.
