Themes such as politics and self-realisation will come into limelight this weekend in the city as Bengaluru-based

theatre

group Aamhi will put up an evening of two theatrical performances. “The

plays

are based on Maharashtrian stories and we have been performing them since 1999,” says Sandeep Paranjape, the director of the production. Titled

Ek Ant Ki Shuruaat

, this production will be staged tomorrow at Rangasthala Auditorium at 7.30 pm. It will feature Rashtra, an intense political drama penned by renowned Marathi writer CP Deshpande, and Swami, written by GA Kulkarni, which is a tale of a traveller and his journey through the beyond belief to self-transformation.

“Although we have been performing these plays for over 20 years, these plays are still very relevant, and will still be pertinent years from now,” says Sandeep, adding, “The only thing that has changed is that people are more open to taking up challenging roles now.” Sandeep believes that the city is becoming more aware about the existence of

Hindi

plays. “When we started, there were only about three troupes, but today, there are close to nine troupes performing. The number of shows have also gone up, with almost 30 shows having been performed until September this year. The numbers are only increasing,” he signs off.
