The playwright prepares to premiere his play Anavarana at Kaladwa... Read More

Abhishek Iyengar

admits that his play

Anavarana

is not his lockdown work, but in fact, starts where he left off last year. "The theatrical performance happened last year, but sadly the next day there was a city-wide lockdown and hence, was showcased only for a day." Now, the

playwright

is ready with the play's second outing and hopes it gets the attention the story deserves.

Offering a peek into the plot, Abhishek says, "It is a thriller that revolves around six friends who meet up after years at a reunion and play a game of truth, which brings revelations about each of them to the fore. Then, a dead body lands up at the venue." Hence the play's name Anavarana, which means unveiling of truth.

Was it hard to get back to action, after the long hiatus? Abhishek is quick to point out, "The biggest challenge was to give people confidence to get back to performing on stage. It was not easy, as there are 6-7 people in one spot and this story cannot be performed with actors standing far away from each other on stage. So, to get the actors back into the rehearsal room was a tough task."

Writing the play took Abhishek four to five months, and another month for it to take shape. Through the play, Abhishek also tries to bring forth issues that plague the youth of today. Directed by

Ranjan S

, the play tries to bring in the element of live entertainment for the audience. "In the world of OTT and entertainment at the click of a button, we have tried to amp up our execution along with good content," wraps Abhishek. The 70-minute play Anavarana will premiere at Kaladwaraka auditorium in

Koramangala

on Sunday.
