Theatre

lovers in Bengaluru will soon be treated to a comic rendition of

William Shakespeare

’s celebrated dramatic piece, A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream. Written and directed by Manish Mitra, the play Shakespeare’s Naataka Prakarana – Part 1 will be staged at Prayog Studio on April 8 (7 pm).

The play features actor Prasad Cherkady, who sings, acts and simultaneously dances to create the characters. The pattern of the production draws energy from India’s traditional narrative patterns.

The play’s music is inspired by Karnataka’s Yakshagana music, West Bengal’s Baul music, Rabindra Sangeet and traditional storytelling practises. The actor brings the story through Kannada, Bengali songs and spoken words, yet trying to break the vernacular dependency to achieve the catharsis.

Shakespeare’s Naataka Prakarana – Part 1 was performed as part of Theatre Olympics 2018.
