The debate on

groupism

in

Bollywood

has been one of the most discussed topics in recent times on mainstream media as well as social media. It only gathered some more momentum when the Mozart of Madras,

AR Rahman

, who is usually quiet and does not speak up on anything controversial or otherwise, made a comment during a radio interview on groupism in the film industry, especially in Bollywood.

When asked why he doesn't do as many films in Bollywood on a promotional for Radio Mirchi, he said, "I don't say no to good movies, but I think there is a gang, which, due to misunderstandings, is spreading some false rumours." He further went on to add, "People are expecting me to do stuff, but there is another gang of people preventing that from happening."

Recently, in a video interview with

Bangalore Times

, we asked singer and composer Vijay Prakash, who has been closely working with Rahman since the Oscar-winning song

Jai Ho

about his take on AR Rahman's recent statement on groupism. He responded, "I am no one to talk about anything about him, because he is a genius and one of the finest human beings. But, Rahman sir doesn't say anything for personal benefit. When he does speak up, it is for the betterment of the industry and the society at large. He has got everything that he wants. I am not talking about the Oscars. He has done music for ten lifetimes. He is not bothered for personal benefit."
