The musical duo spoke about their upcoming ventures during a conversation with Bangalore Times
Based out of Chennai, the Trichur Brothers ' Srikrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan ' have been popular on the Carnatic music circuit for quite a while. However, after the recent success of Namami Gange ' the anthem for the Indian government's project to clean river Ganga ' the duo have shot to national fame and now they feel this has made them even more responsible towards the society.
'After Namami Gange, we knew that the path has opened up for and we intend to follow it by taking up more socially relevant causes, and thus making people aware of the issues plaguing our society,' says Ramkumar.
Adding to that, Srikrishna says that there was an inner call which propelled them to take up such causes. 'We really wanted to contribute to the society as musicians. A well-structured song with a lovely conceptualized video can do wonders and convey a social message crossing all boundaries. We are driven towards conveying messages to the world through the audio-visual medium,' he adds. Their next project in line is Vande Bharatambhe, which is a tribute to all those soldiers, who have laid their lives and are living in the toughest conditions.
'The armed forces are a symbol of nationalism and the song is a tribute to them. In general, people living in the southern part of India have not been exposed much to the harsh conditions that the soldiers have to deal with. However, during our shoot in northern India (for Namami Gange), we found people have a different take on the terrorist activities or the martyred army jawans as compared to southern India. We also got to know how much the army contributes to save lives of civilians (like in the case of Uttarakhand floods),' says Ramakumar
Srikrishna adds, 'When we toured foreign countries, we found that in live concerts or any public space there is a special announcement made if a person belonging to armed forces is present. Here that is lacking, and hence it is imperative that we spread the word on the role of armed forces in India.'
After the completion of this project, the duo also have plans to take up other issues like saving the environment as well as protecting the girl child.
Being musicians and working on such issues is not really common, but for the Trichur Brothers it came naturally. 'It unfolded naturally for us and as we grew up learning music together and before we knew it we were singing together and also aware of societal problems,' says Ramkumar.
The musical duo share a special kind of vocal stability, texture and coordination. Their thought patterns and philosophy are similar, which according to them, is essential to appeal to the audience universally. Their experiments with their art form have helped them to take their music to a large group of people globally.
