Shakti Iyersingh's Qiss - which means The Queer Kiss - draws inspiration from varied genres ranging from sufi to blues to metal. Qiss- the queer kiss is a musical endeavor involving multiple artists by trans woman performing musician Shakti Iyersingh. The musical influences of Qiss are as varied and diverse as Shakti's life experiences. Starting as a singer, Shakti picked up the guitar to accompany herself. Apart from covering Sufi, Metal and Bollywood, she writes her original songs often fusing dance energies with powerful metal rhythms and classically inspired vocals. Through her work, Qiss wants to convey to the world that art has no gender, just like love. That humankind needs more empathy to survive, thrive. Her songs carry angst from intense traumatic experiences as a childhood sexual abuse survivor, and she intends to contribute the proceeds of her performances to helping the cause of other survivors of child abuse. Shakti has performed at several events and even spoken openly about her past.
