Across the world, people have been doing their bit to show their gratitude and appreciation of the hard work of those working on the frontlines of the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. From art works, to short films, music and more, Covid warriors are being celebrated in many forms.
Back home, the latest in this series is an anthem featuring popular Kannada singers.
Called Kannige Kaanuva Devaru, it is the brainchild of filmmaker Maya Chandra and has music by Dheerendra Doss. Written by Sujith Venkataramaiah, this song, which will be released today, features the voices of Raghu Dixit,
Sanjith Hegde, Sunil Raoh, Chaithra HG, Varijashree Venugopal and Supriya Ram, apart from Dheerendra himself.
Speaking about the song, Dheerendra says, “I just called whoever I had worked with in the recent past with and they all gladly became a part of the project. But given the lockdown, most of us didn’t have access to recording studios, so we had to devise ways to record our segments on mobile phones. It was challenging for the singers to record with a decent quality on a phone, and even more for me to deal with that quality and balance everything out, considering there were voice recordings from different brands of phones, and with different acoustic environments. But we made it happen and learnt a thing or two from this process.”
The team behind the song also assure that they did not violate any rules. “All the artistes footage was shot on mobile phones, some of us using make shift tripods or walls for that matter. The footage of the frontline working staff was shot professionally by Maya Chandra’s team after taking necessary permissions from the police department, and with adequate safety measures,” adds Dheerendra.
