The teachings of

Kanakadasa

have just gone hip hop, thanks to musician Vasu Dixit’s latest video song,

Naanu Neenu

. The song is about the need for humans to grow beyond self-centredness and greed.
Though many musicians have crooned Naanu Neenu Yennadiru

Heena Manava

in different ways,

Vasu

has not listened to any of them just so that he is not influenced.
“I have kept the title as Naanu Neenu since it is catchy and will strike a chord immediately. The words are perfectly suited and that’s why I wanted to experiment without affecting the soul of the song. It’s a one-shot music video song which amalagamates three dance forms: street dance,

Bharatanatyam

and

Afro-house

, both indoors and outdoors, in under four minutes.

“Naanu Neenu talks about man’s greed. There are enough resources for everyone’s needs, but not every man’s greed. It also emphasizes the fundamental law of nature that change is the only constant. The difference between animals and human beings is the knowledge that we possess. The lust for wealth and all the other whims and fancies of man is what is leading us towards insanity. The song is universal and it holds good for even the next hundred years to come.”
Though Vasu Dixit had completed the shoot two months back, he couldn’t release it because of the pandemic. “The situation was grim during the second wave. Now, people are venturing out everywhere as festivities have set in and they have started to enjoy varied art forms which augurs well for artists,” he says.
Vasu further adds that he is delighted to perform live soon. “It’s been one-and-a-half years since I last gave a live performance. I am glad to perform in front of a live crowd. It feels like we are starting our journey all over again,” he signs off.
