15-member band performs in Bangalore today
Mysore-based folk band Haiklu is an amalgamation of various musical styles as it comprises musicians from various genres. Their aim, says bass and lead guitar Pramod Chakravarthy Stephen, is to create a new language in music that integrates the modern musical elements. The band, which was formed last week, will perform at Ravindra Kalakshetra today.

At today's performance, as many as 14 musicians will be on stage. Haiklu's philosophy, says Pramod, is to take folk music to the next generation, bring folk forms into modern day sound aesthetics, and collaborate with local, national and international folk artists.
Haiklu comprises musicians from Carnatic, Western and folk genres who all blend various styles and create a new meaning. It includes Bobby Myaboo (on bass guitar), Nagesh Kandegala (lead vocals), Sindoora (lead vocals), Subrahmanya Mysore (percussion), Pradeep Kiggal (rhythm guitar), Vinay (drums), Lokesh (backup vocals), Vikram Bharadwaj (ghatam, morsing and kanjira), Sunil (guitar), Manjunath (tamate), Murthy (nagari), Shankar (tarsi), Shankar Mani (nagari) and Shiva (nagari).
