Raghu Dixit’s compositions from
Ninna Sanihake
have been on the charts for a year now and the composer-singer is thrilled to bits. We caught up with him ahead of the release and here’s what he had to say...
Every song seems to be doing well. You must be thrilled…I am very happy that the music has been received well. I give my best for every movie. I am very happy working with this team as everything went smoothly, from the conceptualization to the composition to execution of the songs to the background score. It is very rare that you have a team like this. And I have been particularly lucky as my last three movies have given me such teams.
I am excited that the songs are sung well and even more so because songs that we didn’t expect to win hearts like
Nee Parichaya
, a semi-classical melody, warmed my heart. The songs are also lyrically very strong,
Vasuki Vaibhav has written pure
Kannada
lyrics, without any colloquial language. Overall, it is a classy product that has been well received by the masses too.
Tell us more about the film and the team...Suraj Gowda has done a great job not just as an actor, but also as a writer and director.
Dhanya Ramkumar, who debuts with this film, is going to be a revelation. People will be quite surprised. I think we have a star couple in the making. I really hope that this movie does well for everyone involved. Every single member in this team has given so much for this film beyond the call of duty. I am looking forward to seeing the movie do well in cinema halls despite the rush of big films following us. I think we will pull through.
The soundtrack has varied singers, some established, some new. What went into selecting these singers?I take my own example every time I search for voices. I want voices that will break through the clutter. I arrived on the scene through
Maadeshwara
, which broke this clutter.
Sonu Nigam and
Kunal Ganjawala were singing every third song. Suddenly, a high-pitched singer was a novelty. So, that is what I look for in any new singer. Any singer who has a voice texture that stands out is a good singer for me.
Do you think the break during the pandemic helped the songs become popular, as music has been a big go-to tool?I am fortunate that the songs had time to register. This was the case with Just Math Mathalli and Psycho. The gestation period between the audio release and film release was almost six months, so it gave time for the songs to settle in people’s minds. I am considering myself lucky that the pandemic led to that gestation period. Now, there will be a section of the audience who will come to watch the film because of that. There used to be a time when songs were the calling card for movies, which had kind of gone down. I am seeing a trend now where music is pulling back the crowds into theatres.
What’s your favourite song from the album?Maley Maley takes the cake, for I have sung it. The Sound of Chaos was challenging and beautiful too. But everything is a favourite now because of Vasuki’s lyrics, which make the songs linger longer in people’s minds.
