Bengaluru is set to witness a musical extravaganza this week, with the St. Mark’s Fiesta Musical Evening this weekend. The

event

will feature several well-known artistes from the city, including

music

composer and singer Suresh Peters and singer

Sudhakar Jayaraj

. Suresh, who has worked with music maestro AR Rahman, says that Bengaluru is among those places where one can pursue music as a career more conveniently. “I have been living here for the past 15 years, and the reason I chose to do that is because it’s a great city for the performing arts. There is no dearth of talent here, and events and workshops happen almost every weekend, giving aspirants ample opportunity to learn and master the craft. Also, Bengalureans are open to different languages and cultures, which is a motivating factor for artistes in the city,” he says.

But what about venues that are closing down due to licensing issues? “It is sad to see that a lot of musicians are suffering because of this. I just hope that the problem is sorted soon, so that people can have their jobs back. Music is a serious occupation, and not just entertainment. Bengaluru is known for its music, and I hope things go back to how it used to be soon,” adds Suresh.

Meanwhile, Sudhakar, who will be performing with his 14-member group called Bangalore’s Best, says that the event will be like a walk down memory lane for the audiences. “This will be the group’s debut performance. There will be some retro, Rock ‘n’ Roll tracks that we’ve grown up listening to. It will also be a great way to introduce youngsters to these old classics,” says Sudhakar, adding, “The city is well-versed with the English classics. On November 1, we will be performing music by Elvis Presley, Jim Reeves, Tom Jones and more. It will be the kind of music that people still appreciate. We will also play some latest covers for those who want to enjoy new music.”
