The medium doesn’t matter to me, the roles do: Neetha
Neetha Ashok, who is set to make a comeback to television with Naa Ninna Bidalaare, speaks to us about choosing television after working in Vikrant Rona, how she took a break to spend time with family and also reassess her priorities when it comes to acting. Excerpts:
“I got married after Vikrant Rona, and I wanted to spend some time with my family. Being completely away from the limelight also gave me a much-needed time to focus on what it is that I wanted to do next,” she tells us. She then adds, “Working on a TV show demands daily work on a longer run and I get to be on the television regularly, which doesn’t happen in other mediums.” As for why she is making her comeback with a TV show, she says, ‘The story also thrives entirely on my character which made me accept the project.”
As for why she chose a TV show to make her comeback, she says, “For me, it doesn’t matter whether it is small or big screen, it is the kind of character that matters. I believe the character should resonate with the viewers more than the medium.” The actor says television is still relevant, despite the huge influx of content. “I feel television shows now have more pressure to do better. There’s an increasing demand for high-quality and well-crafted shows. As a result, there might be a greater focus on quality shows. Television is also evolving with more diverse, interactive content offering both challenges and opportunities for actors,” she states.
‘I am grateful that my husband is supportive’
Neetha states that her husband Satish Mesta is always supportive of her acting career. “My husband Satish Mesta is very supportive. He knows that acting makes me happy, so he’s pushed me to pursue it. He has seen e how much I missed being on the sets. Now, he’s eager to watch me on the small screen,” she shares with us.
