For her upcoming Hindi film, actor Bhavvana Rao is breaking out of her comfort zone. “Henceforth, I’ll be part of projects that people don’t easily expect from me,” says the actress, who has a bunch of exciting projects in the pipeline.
“I was always open to doing distinct movies, but I hadn’t found the right scripts until now. I feel an artiste should explore different kinds of films and languages,” she says.
Having been in the industry for over 14 years now, Bhavvana shares that the filmmaking process is a lot more organized now. “Back in the day, things weren’t like this. We didn’t have personal stylists. There was one costumer who took care of everyone and one makeup artist for all. We didn’t have storyboards, sometimes the dialogues would be given on the set, scenes would get changed. But now, a lot of talented young filmmakers have come and brought in a lot of changes. Everything from the location to the costumes is planned way ahead. I feel more comfortable now.”
She further notes, “Back then, even the filmmakers thought that the audience liked only certain kinds of films. Now after the popularity of OTT platforms, we know that the viewers are open to diverse content. They like good films, no matter where the actors are from. Content is always the king.” Bhavvana adds that she is now looking forward to being part of a mythological film. "Being a Bharatanatyam dancer, I have grown up dancing to these stories. So one of my dreams is to be a part of a nice historical film. I’m manifesting it."
‘Filmmakers should have faith’Women oriented subjects do not get as many funders here. Bhavvana notes, "People don't have the faith to invest in it. Very few directors have done films with women as the lead protagonists and I have seen them struggle to fund and release the film. Filmmakers should have more faith in women. There are very few actors who encourage the scripts where female characters are equally strong."
