Yaana


Actress and director Vijayalakshmi Singh called the shots for 'Yaana' and introduced her daughters Vaibhavi, Vainidhi and Vaisiri in Sandalwood. This film set a record of three sisters playing parallel leads in the same movie. 'Yaana' is about three girls who have different problems, how they come together and travel. This movie showcased the power of girls and how can survive independently.

Bhairavi Devi


Radhika Kumaraswamy played the lead role in 'Bhairavi Devi', wherein she appeared in the role of a Goddess. This female-oriented movie was directed by Srivijay, and was produced simultaneously in Telugu and Kannada. It is about how the Goddess punishes the evil. Even though it was a devotional movie, the director took efforts to showcase the power of women.


Daughter of Parvathamma


Haripriya and Sumalatha Ambareesh played the lead role in ‘Daughter of Parvathamma’. The film narrated the story of a mother and daughter's attachment and how they face all the problems together. For the first time in her career, Haripriya played the role of an investigator. The film was directed by Shankar.

Devaki


Priyanka Upendra played the lead role in female-oriented drama 'Devaki'. Priyanka, daughter of Aishwarya Upendra, marked her debut in Sandalwood with this film. 'Devaki' was a crime-thriller written and directed by H Lohith. It was produced by Akshay CS and Ravish RC.


Butterfly

'Butterfly' is another female-oriented movie which hit the screens this year. Directed by Ramesh Aravind, it was a remake of Bollywood film ‘Queen’. Parul Yadav played the lead role of an ambitious girl who loves to travel. The film narrated a fascinating story of how a single girl proves her presence.

Suvarna Sundari


‘Suvarna Sundari’ narrated a present day story and also went back in time, 600 years ago. This reincarnation drama was a massive entertainer and kept the audience glued to the interesting narrative. Directed by Surya, ‘Suvarna Sundari’ featured Sakshi and Jayapradha in the lead roles.
