Honouring more than a century of the medium, UNESCO is celebrating the 11th anniversary of World Radio Day on February 13. This World Radio Day, we take a look at a few popular film and TV personalities who started out with a career in the radio.
Danish SaitStand-up comedian, TV host, radio jockey, actor, and writer--Danish Sait wears multiple hats. Having worked as a radio jockey for the show Supari, he was known to make prank calls and have enacted an array of fictional roles including Asgar, Chacko, Nagesh and Nograj.
Danish made his film debut with the Kannada movie Humble Politician Nograj in 2018 and now has a couple more film projects to his credit.
RJ RohithPopular for radio shows such as Take it Easy and Big Nayaka, RJ Rohith was one of the contestants on the second season of
Bigg Boss Kannada. Having worked as a host for the television show Divided, Rohith made his way to cinema by playing a supporting role in Bombay Mittai and soon went on to co-write and play the lead in Karvva.

Srinivas MGActor, screenwriter, and director, Srinivas entered the field of entertainment as an RJ. Shot to fame with the show Blade Raja, he was also part of several short films before making his entry into the big screens. He made his debut as a director in the Kannada films with Topiwala (2013), a commercial entertainer that starred Upendra.
RJ Siri RavikumarActress and assistant director Siri Ravikumar had a stint as an RJ before she went on to feature in her first full-fledged role in the play Necessary Targets. She later went on to land lead roles in debutants Rahul PK’s Sakutumba Sametha and Shishir Rajmohan’s Abracadabra.
Manvita KamathManvita Kamath started her career as a radio jockey and made a switch to acting through the Kannada film Kendasampige (2015) directed by Duniya Soori. She was paired opposite
Vikky Varun in the film as Gowri Shetty, which went on to become commercial hit
RJ PrithviKnown for Blue Eyes (2020), Prithvi is not just an actor but also an RJ, emcee, a tennis player and a certified pilot. He has also participated in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7.
Sujatha AkshayBefore becoming a movie/TV star, Sujatha Akshaya was an RJ by profession. She later went on to become a VJ, and then a TV presenter slowly making way to the field of cinema. Known for her work in Kannada cinema, she also participated in Bigg Boss Kannada 7.
Mayuraa RaghavendraActor-director Mayuraa Raghavendra, who has worked predominantly in the Kannada movie industry with movies like Aba Jaba Daba, Kannad Gothilla, also started his career in the radio. The RJ-turned-movie producer entertained people of Bangalore for over a decade before getting into the film field.
