Circa 2017, sitting at an office on the 14th floor of a high-rise building in Germany, Viraat – then an engineer - had one thought: I want to go home to Bengaluru as soon as my manager approves my leaves and take up a job that I will never need a break from. Six years and a film later, Viraat is currently working non-stop for three upcoming films - Addhuri Lover, Royal and a yet-untitled project with Duniya Suri.
Easily one among the most toned actors in the Kannada film industry lately, Viraat tells us, “Work or no work, I train every day. Not because I must stay relevant, but because I enjoy what I do. I love my profession and acting is my most favourite thing to do. I alternate between horse-riding, gym, dancing, basketball and running. I spend all my time acquiring skills, so much so that if a director asks me if I know a certain skill, my answer should always be yes. With the rising overload of information online, people are always updated and are aware of the latest trends. As actors, I believe we must consistently upskill – whether it is a new form of dance or fight techniques etc. Consistent training is the key to achieve this.”
‘Fitness shouldn’t feel like a chore’Back in college, I was an athlete and a dancer. I also play basketball at the national level. Being ‘fit’ is not just about going to the gym, but involving oneself in any kind of physical activity, especially something you love and enjoy doing. At the end of the day, it should not feel like a chore. I started working out only after I began my career in films as the characters I played on screen demanded a certain degree of fitness. However, every time I have a shirtless scene to shoot, where I have to look a certain way, I opt for a high-protein, low-carb diet and avoid sugar completely.
