When the Malayalam band Thaikkudam Bridge reacted to the similarities that the hit number 'Varaha Roopam' song from 'Kantara' had to their song 'Navarasam', it caused a big controversy. 'Varaha Roopam', the song from 'Kantara' is not added in the OTT version released on the last day. As there’s a court injunction order on using the song on any online platforms due to the ongoing copyright claim filed by Thaikkudam Bridge.
The new version of 'Varaha Roopam' that is playing in the film is hailed as a huge disappointment and left the netizens raging and fuming over the removal of the song from the OTT version.
In this heat of the controversy, another section of people are firing out mercilessly at music director B Ajaneesh Loknath, who has admitted to being inspired by 'Navarasam' but denies having copied it. The history of Ajaneesh is that this is not the first time he has faced such an allegation. Once the Varaha Roopam controversy broke, there were other allegations including that the song 'Singara Siriye' from 'Kantara' was copied from a Marathi song Apsara Ali.
Without knowing the court orders and copyright rules, fans of 'Kantara' want the ‘original’ Varaha Roopam back in the film, but that won’t be a possibility till the case is concluded and 'Kantara' makers come to an understanding with Thaikkudam Bridge which looks very doubtful. People are wondering why can't the issue be settled with simple discussions and acknowledging with some royalty payment but it seems both sides are not willing to budge than saving themselves from the wrath of the people
Ajaneesh is currently one of the busiest music directors in Kannada cinema but this controversy has surely hit his brand and has become a big black mark in his career. Netizens are expecting that this will be a big lesson for Ajaneesh to have learnt and will not indulge in controversy again.
