A team of some 300 students and professional dancers took the stage in Bengaluru over the weekend, putting together a musical in honour of the great

Charlie Chaplin

. Held as part of the annual event of a city-based dance and fitness studio, Chaplin — the musical was an eight-minute show that featured actress-dancer Sindhu Loknath, portraying the role of the legend.
Sindhu thinks that it is her wit and body language to carry off a comedy performance that has landed her the role. “Previously, we had performed a Michael Jackson-themed act, and this time, it was a feature on Charlie Chaplin. I practised for eight days for the performance,” says Sindhu. When asked how different it is to dance in a film and live on stage, she explains, “When the dance is part of a film shoot, there is a pause after every few steps, a different angle is taken while shooting every sequence, and so on. But when on stage, one has to perform like it is their last day on stage. The energy has to be high and your performance has to be in sync with the other dancers on stage. It is difficult, but the hard work paid off and the audiences enjoyed the Chaplin show a lot.”
Speaking about the Chaplin concept, actress

Bhavanaa Raao

— who was also a part of the event and shook a leg to Madhuri Dixit’s songs — says, “The studio’s creative head, Tejes, wanted to do something on Chaplin. And I felt that the kids performing on stage in Chaplinesque outfits would look cute.” The act was choreographed by Monish.
The event was also attended by several personalities form the

Kannada

film fraternity, including Gurukiran, Raghu Mukherjee, Aravinnd Iyer, along with singers like Inchara Rao and

Sangeetha Rajeev

.
