When Dileep Raj worried he would forget he was an actor; 'I could have done many roles far better”
The Kannada film industry is mourning the loss of actor and producer Dileep Raj, who passed away on Wednesday (May 13) morning at the age of 47 after suffering a heart attack.According to IANS, the actor complained of uneasiness at his residence and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, he did not respond to treatment and passed away on the way.

Dileep Raj's painful reflection on his career

As tributes continue to pour in, many fans are revisiting one of Dileep Raj’s most heartfelt interviews. Earlier in 2025, during a promotional interview for PRK Audio, the actor spoke candidly about the limited opportunities he received during his nearly twenty-five-year career.Despite being widely respected for his talent and versatility, Dileep had appeared in only around 30 films.“I have often wondered why I have not got offers commensurate with my capabilities as an actor. When I see other actors and the projects they are doing, it bothers me that I have not got the opportunity to do such work. As an artiste, it huts that I have not got the platforms I deserve, but what is worse is that I have not been able to identify the reason for this,” he said.

DiIeep Raj said he is worried he will forget that he is an actor

Dileep admitted that what troubled him most was not knowing why better opportunities never came his way.
“The actor reckons that if he knew for certain what is holding him back, he could work towards rectifying that. There are many roles done by other actors that I felt I could have done a far better job at. And yet, these roles were never offered to me. Similarly, when I see great performances, there’s a tad sense of jealousy too that I could not do the role. It’s come to a stage that I am worried I will forget that I am an actor,” he added.

Praise from directors, But few repeat collaborations

Dileep also spoke about a contradiction that remained unresolved throughout his career. Many filmmakers praised his performances and wondered why he was not receiving more work. However, several of them did not return to cast him again. “Do they not think of me while casting or do I not suit the characters in their films? I don’t know. I don’t question their choice," he said. In early 2023, Dileep earned widespread acclaim for his performance in Orchestra, Mysuru!, where he played the lead singer of an orchestra troupe. His final release was 'Nimma Vasthugalige Neeve Javaabdaararu'.
